The test consists of five events, which are timed individually:

 

Event #1  99-YARD OBSTACLE COURSE

Run a 99 yard obstacle course consisting of several sharp turns, a number of curb height obstacles, and a 34 inch high obstacle that must be vaulted.

 

Event #2  BODY DRAG

Lift and drag a 165 pound lifelike dummy 32 feet.

 

Event #3  CHAIN LINK FENCE

Run 5 yards to a 6 foot chain link fence, climb over fence, continue running another 25 yards.

 

Event #4  SOLID WALL CLIMB

Run 5 yards to a 6 foot wall, scale wall, continue running another 25 yards.

 

Event #5 500 YARD RUN

Run 500 yards (equivalent to 1 lap plus 60 yards of a standard running track).

BY INVITE ONLY: If you are successful in the written examination, you will be required to participate in the Physical Agility Test (PAT), which is scheduled based on your completed written examination date. You will have 2 assigned PAT dates and you are allowed to select the PAT date that best fits your schedule. PAT dates are usually held on one Saturday and one following weekday. *You must attend one of the PAT sessions assigned based on your written exam date or else your application will be inactivated and you will have to wait 6 months to reapply for this position. The Physical Agility Test has been established as a bona fide occupational qualification through research and testing, to assure the Department that the applicant has sufficient endurance, strength, and agility to perform physical tasks similar to those that could be required of a law enforcement officer in the performance of duties.
